There was a time when a poke was a (doubtful) flirting move on Facebook. Today, it’s a trend of colorful bowls that seem to be invading our Instagram feeds. This fast-good Hawaiian craze can found on every street corner of (Sweetfin, Okipoki, etc.), but only Mainland Poke uses sustainable, sushi-grade fish. Toro, Salmon, Albacore, Octopus… Mix them with kale or brown rice (we’re still in L.A.) and various options: mango, seaweed, pickles, avocado (we’re still in L.A., bis). And for the lazy ones, there are ready-made bowls: Lu’Au, Ichian, Soy Boy, etc. You wouldn’t drive from the other side of town, but Mainland Poke Shop is a useful lunch spot where you’re overdosing on Joan’s — while you’re stuck on 3rd Street, the hippest street East of Abbott Kinney and West of Sunset Junction.
