On Sundays you may struggle to find a table at Attari Sandwich Shop because the place is packed with local Persian families — which is always a good sign. The secret is to come on Fridays for ab-goosht (a lamb and chickpea stew), or any weekday at lunch break for their beef-tongue sandwich. You read it right, and Jonathan Gold would frown up any fear of said beef-tongue sandwich. As in any traditional Persian restaurant, their soltani, koobideh and garb plates are excellent, and come with either rice or bread, but don’t expect tahdig. Save some space for Attari Sandwich Shop’s famed sholezard (saffron rice pudding), or you may walk to The Kitchen at Westwood for a baklava or two.
