Guisados is a family affair: Armando De La Torre Sr. takes orders, his son is in the kitchen, and her grandchildren at the tables. And their tacos live up to their reputation. Made on site every day in their Boyle Heights location, the 100% corn tortillas are prepared right before being covered with various delicacies: cochinita, mole poblano, chiles torreado, camarones, huleta en salsa verde… A laminated booklet will help you pick — just skip the chicharron. And vegetarians won’t be disappointed either: mushrooms and cilantro, calabacitas, black beans that will make meat-eaters jealous. Don’t bite off more than you can chew, and order the “sampler” with six kid-sized tacos — the hardest part is choosing which ones.
