When a former Animal chef opens a restaurant, that’s excellent news. But when he partners with another Animal alum, you immediately pick up the phone to book a table. Jonathan Whitener and Lien Ta gave birth to Here’s Looking at You in the heart of Koreatown, and it tastes like this: large cubes of pork belly with lime and pineapple, shishito peppers with a finger-licking-good tonato (not tomato) sauce, a wildly seasoned beef tartare on a large slice of Bub and Grandma’s — the best bread in Los Angeles. The cocktail menu is highly tempting, especially the Tropical Medicine. Even if the restaurant’s name comes from a Tiki greeting card, you’ll want to tell them: Here’s looking at you, kid.
