Meals by Genet

You could think you just walked in a French bistro, with white tablecloths and dimmed lighting, but Meals by Genet is in the heart of vibrant Little Ethiopia. A kid-sized kitchen run by Genet Agonafer, and showcased in the “City of Gold” documentary — about the Pulitzer prize winner Jonathan Gold. This tall vegetarian lady prepares everything herself, from injera (large teff pancakes which serve both as plates and cutlery) to Dorowot (marinated chicken that takes about 50 hours to make, like a distant cousin of the mole), via the Kifto, her spicy beef tartare. For two people, simply share a vegetarian combination (to enjoy the variety of Madame Genet’s vegetable preparations) and Dorowot — and above all, don’t ask for cutlery. We can never say it enough.
