If you’ve ever tried a pita at Miznon in Paris, New York or Tel Aviv, chances are you’ll love Mizlala. Both Mizlala locations are operated by chef/owner Danny Elmaleh: the West Adams one boasts a large patio with loud funky music, and the Sherman Oaks one has a larger menu. Generous plates of hummus masabacha (a staple of Yaffo cuisine, i.e. warm hummus with big lumps and lots of cumin), roasted meats (shawarma, kebab, pargiyot, kefta and merguez), and tons of veggies. Their green falafels are perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and steamy inside, perfect on a bed of salad with yellow beats, feta and Persian cucumber. Sides include sumac fries, skillet-fried halloumi, saffron rice, muhammara, babaganoush, etc. Come dinnertime, you’ll want to share the apricot lamb tagine, or the merguez shakshuka. There’s so much on Mizlala’s menu that deserves to be adored, so make sure you come hungry. Bring friends to share even more, but make sure they’re up or the challenge!
