Salt & Straw

L.A. no longer needs to envy Portland, the hipster-foodie capital of the West Coast: we now have Stumptown, Blue Star Donuts, and Salt & Straw. However when they moved to California, Salt & Straw came with the 20-minute regulatory line in front of every scoop shop. Tyler and Kim are firm believers in the  “farm-to-cone” philosophy, using the same Oregon cream for a rainbow of flavors: black olives and goat cheese, sea-salt caramel, matcha matcha-man (which we love both for the taste and the name), undercooked brownie, and Grandma Malek’s almond brittle… Some perfumes are limited-edition only, so fans will beg Salt & Straw community managers not to discontinue their favorite scoop flavor. Venice, Downtown, WeHo, Larchmont… whichever the neighborhood, the story’s the same: a long line, a sampling of different flavors, a cone or a cup… it’s no scoop that Salt & Straw leaves more wanting more. Yes, more scoops!
