Shake Shack

When Shake Shack opened on Santa Monica Blvd, people queued up for more than an hour to order a burger. No luck, it is still the case today. And they are right to be queuing – each with their own reason, actually. Some queue to finally put an end to the In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack debate, to see who wins the supreme ‘best burger’ title (the comparison is in fact impossible, and nobody will ever agree). Others are here to worship Danny Meyer, who started Shake Shack with a small food cart in New York City before turning it into an international company. There’s also the guy who dreamt all night of Chick’n Shack, he’s stomping nervously with the green buzzer in hand, waiting for the vibration that will finally liberate his stomach. There’s this couple of dudes who have lived in WeHo for twenty years and want a change from The Abbey, so they come have a beer: the ShackMeister Ale made by Brooklyn Brewery. There’s also a herd of New York fans come who’ve come to try the Roadside Double burger, a French Dip inspired by Philippe The Original which is exclusive to LA. Another exclusive: the Rainbow Connection, a dessert made with frozen custard, Sqirl jam and Cofax doughnuts. There are also a few bystanders attracted by the crowd, some crazy instagrammers, the hungry neighbors and the crinkle-cut fries fans. They all have a reason to wait in line. And it is not about to calm down…
