Son of a Gun West Hollywood Los Angeles

Son of a gun

In the Jon & Vinny’s restaurant family, let’s ask for the second son, the one who gave up meat and spends his days fishing with his daddy. Located on West 3rd, i.e. the WeHo street which is getting a full make-over (Le Labo, Sweetgreen, Aesop…), Son of a Gun duplicates the success of Animal: small plates to be share or not in a trendy hubbub. Pescetarians rejoice, as most of the menu comes from the sea: oysters, lobster roll, clam linguine, fish and chips… And the king of the place, photographed from every angle and ordered by almost half of the patrons: the shrimp sandwich toast, made with two slices of pain de mie (in French s’il vous plaît), grilled in clarified butter, covered with shrimp and ginger paste, sriracha sauce and cilantro. If you’re lucky, you may get to try the brandade, which made notable appearances on the seafood-centric menu, before disappearing a few weeks later. The wine list is impeccable, as per usual thanks to Helen Johannesen (Helen’s Wines…), and the stunning decor comes mainly from Grandpa Dotolo’s garage. A true game of Happy Families.
