Sweet Rose Creamery

Ranking #2 after the Smurf flavor (which can be found in the best gelaterias in Rome), the mint flavor is probably the most hazardous choice one can make when ordering an ice cream cone. An After Eight taste which anaesthetizes the tongue and leaves no chance to the second scoop underneath. Can we agree on that? Very good. Now forget EVERYTHING you think you know about mint ice cream and head over to Sweet Rose. A real ice cream that smells like fresh mint leave (instead of peppermint gum), with dark chocolate shavings to counterbalance this Moroccan-tea sweetness. But what, you ask, is the secret of this unique taste? Freshly picked mint leaves which have been soaked in whole milk, and chocolate chips handmade in Los Angeles. The other flavors are so delicious that it becomes hard to pick only two scoops: sea-salt caramel, black sesame, fig and goat cheese, crème fraîche and peppercorn, matcha … Japanese chef Shiho Yoshikawa, who learnt her trade at Tartine in San Francisco, sources all organic ingredients at the market and local farms. Her ice cream are available in five shops, for dessert at Rustic Canyon, and online. It’s impossible not to love it. Oh, and did we mention the fresh mint ice cream?
