It’s hard to find a more hipster sandwich shop in Los Angeles, but we love this one because they almost didn’t do it on purpose: Wax Paper is made out of shipping containers in Frogtown near the LA river, and held by a lovely couple of industry veterans (Peter was the CDC at Jon & Vinny’s, and Lauren used to work at L&E Oyster Bar). Their sandwiches are named after NPR personalities, and our favorite is the Ira Glass: avocado, cucumber, cheddar, sprouts, pickles between slices of Bub and Grandma’s poppy seed bread. Meat eaters will love the Larry Mantle with bologna, capicola, pecorino pepato, pickled peppers in a Bub’s sesame baguette.
