Winsome has a bipolar effect on people. For lunch, you may not be a huge fan; but for pastries, you’ll never want to leave. Go for the aguas frescas and horchatas and as a late-afternoon and booze-free drink. Make sure to have a light lunch on that day, because you won’t be able to choose between the Meyer lemon pie, the buckwheat and candied ginger cookie and the matcha concha (the what?!). We often hear that Republique makes the best pastries in LA, well the apple tart doesn’t fall far from the tree: Leslie Mialma, formerly at Republique, is the pastry chef behind all these Winsome tarts, buns and cakes. In the early evening, while you’re biting off a brioche in this large patio right off Sunset Boulevard, you’ll be able to see the sun set over Angelino Heights. Winsome’s interior was designed by Wendy Haworth, whose charm has already operated at Gracias Madre and chose this time to give a retro look to a neo-diner. Our favorite attention at Winsome? Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Valleybrink Road bouquets are available over the counter for $35. Bring one back home, along with a baguette for dinner.
