Lost in the heart of Beverly Hills, Afghani Kabob House contrasts with the neighborhood: a quiet terrace, affordable prices, warm service and authentic food. Each guest is offered a portion of shornakhod, a chickpea salad with cilantro, but we must not delude ourselves: kebab is what you’re here for. Your meat (choose beef over chicken) will be served with Afghan bread, basmati rice (ask for seasoned rice instead — that’s very important!) and a tomato-cucumber-cilantro salad. If you’re vegetarian, the quabili pallow (fried rice with raisins and carrots) holds the road, but we prefer the cardamom-pistachio version at other kabob spots in Glendale. For dessert, the Firni is like to the Afghan cousin of Lebanese mouhalabieh: a milk flan with rose water and crushed pistachios – which you want to order with the homemade chai tea.
