71Above

71above Downtown Los Angeles

It would be understandable to fear that a restaurant with stunning views might be a tourist trap. 71Above, the highest restaurant west of the Mississippi, is quite the opposite. The chef imagined two or three-coursed menus which almost distract you from the breathtaking view. Black truffle agnolotti, grilled octopus with mustard seeds, vadouvan scallops and a divine suckling pig roasted for six hours… The wine list is curated by Reggie Narito (which you’ll recognize from the movie Somm) and the cocktails by Darwin Manahan, recently ranked in the 30 under 30 list. It is also possible to come only to the bar, though booking is required even for happy hour. There are no bad seats at this 360° restaurant, but you’ll want to choose your table wisely: facing the kitchen for the purists (there’s a Chef’s Table menu at $110 per head), or in an intimate alcove closest to the window, facing South. From the 71th floor of the US Bank Tower, you’ll have fun recognizing Malibu, Dodger Stadium, the Valley, Long Beach … If it is true that people come to 71Above for the view, they certainly come back for the food.
