Though it may not feel like it in LA, we’re are in the midst of autumn. Thanksgiving is fast approaching and that means pie season is almost upon us. We love baking as much as the next person, but sometimes it’s best to delegate some of the holiday cooking duties. Here are our five favorite places to pick-up jaw dropping pies in the city.
Rucker’s Pies
Many people despaired when Nicole Rucker (formerly at Gjusta, Cofax and Fiona) stopped serving her pies at Smorgasburg. Thankfully we can all get a taste once again now that she accepts requests through Rucker’s Pies.
Isa Fabro of Unit 120
When November rolls around pretty much every bakery in LA begins hawking the typical pumpkin and pecan pies. Isa Fabro takes a more unique approach, serving up an incredible ube pilinut toffee pie, the likes of which you won’t find anywhere else in the city.
Otium
Downtown hotspot Otium has one of the strongest pastry programs in LA. Now that we are hurtling towards the holidays, do yourself a favor and place a special order for one of Allison Olivia’s holiday pies.
Gjusta
It’s universally known that Gjusta excels at pretty much everything they do. That being said, the baking program is truly phenomenal and their Marie de Choirga pumpkin pie is testament to this.
Friends and Family
Roxana Jullapat, the extremely talented baker and co-owner of Friends and Family, is on a mission to serve 400 pies this Thanksgiving. Trust us when we say you won’t regret ordering a classic apple pie and helping her reach her goal.
