Sage Vegan Bistro

The original Sage Vegan Bistro location in Echo Park is an Eastside fixture and a staple in the vegan food scene. But don’t get vegan confused with über-healthy or dainty; Sage serves some of the heartiest and most wickedly satisfying things you can’t believe are made without meat or dairy. The greatest thing is that it’s accessible, an entry level place for vegans to bring their friends and for everyone to leave content — and not needing a second dinner. Sage is genuinely delicious, with the added benefit of the produce on the menu being locally sourced and organic, and much of it even coming from their own farm. Many of the standout dishes are vegan spin offs of popular non-vegan dishes, indicated by the “quotes” on the menu. Their cauliflower buffalo “wings”, spicy mac and “cheese,” and range of pizzas are all go-to orders for most tables. The menu is extensive, covering everything from bowls, sandwiches, salads, pizza, all the way to tacos. The bowls are also a highlight, and they aren’t trying to imitate any non-vegan dishes, committed instead to being chock full of super fresh produce. Sage offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch on the weekends, as well as homemade brews, kombucha, craft cocktails, and sustainable wine. Dessert is also not to be missed, as one of Sage’s standouts is their homemade ice cream, which you can either get while dining in or just stop by for a scoop…or instead just get a divine coconut hot chocolate on the way out the door and have an evening stroll around Echo Park.
