Like Jessica Koslow and her Sqirl jams, Valerie Gordon built her empire on her sweet tooth. In 2013, she began making toffees with her beau, Stan Weightman Jr.. Thirteen years later, Valerie’s Confections has three locations, and goes through 2000 pounds of chocolate, 4000 eggs and as many flower petals per week. Every bite of chocolate is hand-dipped, but you’ll want to choose the fleur de sel one. Also try the Blum’s cake, banana bread or chocolate truffles: you’ll have to come back several times to taste the wonders of Valerie’s Confections, unanimously elected ‘Best Chocolate’ by LA Magazine.
